Aakash is promoted as the world’s cheapest tablet computer till now. It costs only £22. Last year when Indian government lunch Aakash, they took it as a national pride. The Indian Government believed that this low-cost tablet will bring a new digital revolution to the life for millions of people who are below the poverty line.
About the Launch
Kapil Sibram, a human resource minister launches Aakash in Delhi. Kapil mentioned that they will provide it to the school children throughout India so that the children can access the educational resources which were previously unavailable and scarce.
Reason for launching Aakash 2
There were many technical weak points in Aakash. The things that make it appeal weeks are the chunky features and slow speed. To address the problems which were seen in Aakash 1, upgraded model named Aakash 2 was released this month.
Chinese Producing Aakash
According to Hindustan Times, the creator of Aakash- Datawind is importing products produced by the Chinese suppliers. According to the newspaper 10,000 units of Aakash was imported from four Chinese suppliers between October 26th and November 7th by Datawind. On the understanding of producing the products within the territory of the country 100,000 units of Aakash were ordered by the government.
The chief executive of Datawind, Sunil Singh Tuli disagrees with the importing of Aakash 2. He emphasize about the first 10,000 Aakash 2 tablets was used china made “motherboards and kits”.
To give a better quality in look we have kits and motherboards manufactured in the Chinese subcontractors’ and kitted in china. But the main thing is that the programming and final assembly are done by Datawind in India. There are two places, New Delhi and Amritsar are the places where the initial devices are assembled and programmed.
What others say about Aakash
India’s information technology sector got more concerns after the claim was raised. According to the director of CSI (Computer Society of India) Satish Babu, Akash must be an Indian product but viewing the report about Aakash they need some authentic information before saying anything about the issue.
According to one of the former head of Nasscom, India’s IT industry body, Kiran Karnik, it is common for making IT hardware in China. But the main thing is Research, Design and Development. Regarding Aakash he told that, it is designed and developed in India. So, how anyone can say that it’s not Indian.
